Parkour
is a physical discipline inspired by human movement, focusing on efficient forward motion over, under, and around obstacles in one's environment. Pictures of overflux members to the right and left demonstrate this discipline.

Such movement may come in the form of running, jumping, climbing, and other more complex techniques. The goal of parkour is to adapt one\'s movement to any given obstacle.

There is emphasis on "discipline" because parkour is not a sport involving competition. It is more an activity involving you and your own boundaries, and a tight-knit community of friends, as found on overflux.

According to founder David Belle, the spirit of parkour is guided in part by the notions of "escape" and "reach", that is, the idea of using physical agility and quick thinking to get out of difficult situations, and to be able to go anywhere that one desires.

Mostly, parkour involves drilling core techniques over and over until one is comfortable enough to combine movements. Learn more about parkour techniques on this website, as well as gymnastics and health tips. Mouse over "Articles" in the menu above for more topics.

For more pictures where the ones to the left and right came from, mouse over "Pictures" button at the top. You can also view videos by clicking "Videos". More parkour videos can be found at parkour.tv.

Because parkour involves your body in an unforgiving environment of solid obstacles, it is important to get into the right shape before attempting ANY of these movements. Some overflux members have noted the benefits of practicing movements in a gymnastics gym before trying them outside. Locations of overflux traceurs (parkour practitioners) can be found on the training grid.

More detailed information about the history and practice of parkour can be found at wikipedia and the global parkour website, parkour.net.
